When Alexander began to rule, he quickly reasserted Macedonian power within Greece. Alexander had victories all across the Persian territories of Asia minor, Syria, Egypt without a single defeat. His greatest victory was the Battle of Gaugamfla (now known as, northern Iraq) in 331 BC. Alexander founded over 70 cities and brought Greek culture to all the places he conquered.

Motivations
Philip was assassinated in 336 BC and the powerful and volatile kingdom was handed down to Alexander. What drove Alexander was him wanting world conquest and the creation of universal world monarchy.
